The Glasser Scholars at UC Irvine - selecting students who are incorporating music in their careers, deepening their relationship with music.
The Drake Gives/Alec Glasser UCI Music Scholarship
In 2023, The University of California Irvine School of Social Ecology and The Drake Gives established an annual scholarship program to support students who want to infuse music in their future professional paths in some manner. These scholarships are awarded to those with a financial need regardless of whether they intend to have careers specifically in the music industry.
The Drake Gives is thrilled to continue its support for The Glasser Scholars at UC Irvine, now in its second year, with an annual $100,000 pledge. Each year, we proudly select 10 outstanding students who demonstrate exceptional dedication and passion for incorporating music into their lives and future careers.

We are thrilled to support their endeavors and committed to guiding them in deepening their relationship with music.
Music has an unparalleled ability to unite people, creating a vibrant celebration of our shared humanity. Whether through joining a choir, attending a concert or dancing, music fosters the sense of joy and connection that transcends boundaries. It’s a unifying force that can inspire real change – empowering communities, raising awareness, healing wounds and advancing education.
We’re rethinking the music industry by shining a light on careers that connect with music in ways beyond performance. Fields such as hospitality, retail, healthcare, education, research and policy all weave music into everyday life, making a difference for both workers and the people they impact.
“The power of music extends beyond entertainment,” says Alec Glasser.
“It can be harnessed in various professional realms, including medicine, social services, marketing, and sports. He established the scholarship because he believes “music is a fundamental part of the soul and it can be applied in many different contexts. There are infinite ways music can be used and we need new creativity to keep that moving forward.”
